CONGRATULATIONS TO JANEY...THE 2006 FLOW 93.5 SOUL SEARCH R&B WINNER!

FLOW 93.5 is pleased to announce that 19-year-old Janey is the R&B winner for the 4th Annual FLOW 93.5 Soul Search. Over the past week, FLOW 93.5 listeners cast more than 160,000 votes online at and via text message for their favourite Top 5 R&B Finalist.

Janey received a whopping 53,636 votes from FLOW 93.5 listeners to earn the 2006 FLOW 93.5 Soul Search R&B crown.

Janey grew up in Brockville, and has been training in kickboxing for the past eight years. Her passions are singing, writing and fitness, and she hopes that winning the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search will help her realize her dream of one day singing her own music all over the world.

"This has gotten me started on the ride of my life," said an excited Janey. "Thank you so much to the FLOW listeners and all of my friends and family for the love and support!"

Q: How does the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search work?

OPEN AUDITIONS:
Saturday, January 14, 2006
Pantages Hotel & Spa (200 Victoria Street, one block east of Yonge & Shuter)

Entrants will each have a maximum of one (1) minute to perform one song live for a panel of industry judges. Entrants may either sing/rap an original or a cover/remake. Contestants may audition either a capella or with musical accompaniment (CD only). Entrants will be judged on stage presence, vocal range and control, vocal delivery, timing and rhythm, musical selection and creativity.

The panel of judges will select the Top 20 Semi-Finalists in the R&B and Hip Hop categories following the auditions on January 14, 2006. The Top 20 Semi-Finalists in each category will be contacted between Saturday, January 14, 2006 and Monday, January 17, 2006 and will be invited back to a second audition in front of the panel of industry judges. At the Top 20 Semi-Final Auditions, each contestant will perform two songs (maximum of two minutes per song) for the panel of industry judges. Contestants may either sing/rap an original or a cover/remake. Contestants will be judged on stage presence, vocal range and control, vocal delivery, timing and rhythm, musical selection and creativity. The panel of judges will select the Top 10 finalists in each category following the auditions on Saturday, January 21, 2006.

The panel of industry judges will select the Top 10 finalists in the R&B category and the Hip-Hop category following the Semi-Final auditions on January 14, 2006. The Top 10 Finalists in each category will be notified between Saturday, January 21, 2006 and Monday, January 23, 2006.

PUBLIC VOTING FOR TOP 10 R&B FINALISTS:
Monday, January 23rd to Saturday, January 29th, 2006
(Note: Voting for Top 10 Hip-Hop Finalists takes place February 13-19)

Starting Monday, January 23, audio clips of the Top 10 R&B Finalists will be posted at www.urbanflowcase.com/soulsearch.

From January 23-29, FLOW 93.5 listeners will vote online or via text messaging to narrow Top 10 finalists down to Top 5 finalists.

PUBLIC VOTING FOR TOP 5 R&B FINALISTS:
Monday, January 30th to Sunday, February 5th, 2006

Starting Monday, January 30, audio clips of the Top 5 R&B Finalists will be posted at www.urbanflowcase.com/soulsearch. The Top 5 Finalists will also audition live at the FLOW 93.5 studios during the week of January 30 - February 5.

From January 30-February 5, public votes (online or via text messaging) will be tabulated to determine the winner of the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search - R&B category. The FLOW 93.5 Soul Search R&B Winner will be announced on FLOW 93.5 on Monday, February 6.

PUBLIC VOTING FOR TOP 10 HIP-HOP FINALISTS:
Monday, February 13h to Saturday, February 19th, 2006

Starting Monday, February 13, audio clips of the Top 10 Hip-Hop Finalists will be posted at www.urbanflowcase.com/soulsearch.

From February 13-19, FLOW 93.5 listeners will vote online or via text messaging to narrow Top 10 finalists down to Top 5 finalists.

PUBLIC VOTING FOR TOP 5 HIP-HOP FINALISTS:
Monday, February 20th to Saturday, February 26th, 2006

Starting Monday, February 20, audio clips of the Top 5 Hip-Hop Finalists will be posted at www.urbanflowcase.com/soulsearch.

The Top 5 Finalists will also audition live at the FLOW 93.5 studios during the week of February 20-26. From February 20-26, public votes (online or via text messaging) will be tabulated to determine the winner of the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search - Hip-Hop category. The FLOW 93.5 Soul Search Hip-Hop Winner will be announced on FLOW 93.5 on Monday, February 27.

Q: Is there an age limit?

A: You must be 12 years of age (as of January 1, 2006) or older to enter the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search. If you are between the ages of 12 and 18, you must have the permission of your parent/guardian in order to participate. Your parent/guardian must sign the entry form to grant permission, and must be present at the time of your audition.

Q: Can groups enter?

A: No. This is a competition for individual performers only. Rappers and singers are permitted.

Q: Can I audition with music?

A: Yes. We are looking for raw singing or rapping talent, however contestants may audition either a capella or with musical accompaniment (CD only). If auditioning with music, you must bring an instrumental version of your musical accompaniment on CD. You are advised to bring two copies of your music so they have a back-up. Please note that you have one minute to audition, and your instrumental music will be stopped at the one-minute mark.

Q: Who are the judges? How are the auditions judged?

A: The judges who will select the Top 10 Finalists in the R&B category and the Top 10 Finalists in the Hip-Hop category are comprised of the following experienced music industry professionals:

David 'Click' Cox - A&R Representative, Universal Music Canada
Farley Flex - Canadian Idol Judge
Elaine Overholt - Vocal Coach (Big Voice)
Debi Blair - Artist Relations Director, Urban Music Association of Canada
Matte Babel - MuchMusic VJ

The judges will be scoring the auditions based on the following criteria: vocal range and control; vocal delivery; timing and rhythm; musical selection and creativity. The decision of the judges is final.

Q: How does the public voting work?

A: FLOW 93.5 listeners will be encouraged to visit www.urbanflowcase.com/soulsearch and cast their vote for their favourite contestant. There is no limit on how many times a person can vote, so if you are a Top 10 Finalist, make sure you spread the word so you can get as much support as possible!

Q: What does the winner get?

A: There will be two grand prize winners of the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search (R&B winner and Hip-Hop winner). Each winner will receive:

The opportunity to represent Toronto at the national Urban Star Quest showcase that takes place during Canadian Music Week (March 4, 2006)

Each winner of the Search will create three songs (one with Rashad 'Ringo' Smith and two with Saukrates). These three tracks will be manufactured by FLOW 93.5 on behalf of the winners on a 3-song EP.

Rashad Smith is a critically-acclaimed New York-based producer who has worked with Hip Hop and R&B superstars such as LL Cool J, Erykah Badu, Lil Kim, Nas, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, Aaliyah, Fat Joe and more!

Saukrates is the recipient of the 2005 Canadian Urban Music Award for Producer of the Year. This multi-talented artist, producer and entrepreneur is co-owner of Capitol Hill Music, and he's worked with Redman, Nelly Furtado, Method Man, Jully Black, Kardinal Offishall, Big Black Lincoln and he produced nearly half the tracks on Divine Brown's critically-acclaimed debut album.

The winners of the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search will represent Toronto at the National Urban Star Quest competition against regional contestants from The Beat 91.5 (Kitchener), Hot 89.9 (Ottawa) and The Bounce 91.7 (Edmonton). The Urban Star Quest playdown will be held live on Saturday, March 4, 2006 in Toronto (presented by FLOW 93.5 FM) during Canadian Music Week.

Q: What is Urban Star Quest?

A: Urban Star Quest is Canadian Music Week's Ontario-wide talent competition involving the winners of Soul Search and the winners of talent competitions being held by The Beat 91.5 (Kitchener), Hot 89.9 (Ottawa) and The Bounce 91.7 (Edmonton).

The R&B and Hip-Hop winners of the FLOW 93.5 Soul Search will represent Toronto at the Urban Star Quest competition against regional winners from The Beat 91.5 (Kitchener), Hot 89.9 (Ottawa) and The Bounce 91.7 (Edmonton). The Urban Star Quest playdown will be held live on Saturday, March 4, 2006 in Toronto (hosted by FLOW 93.5 FM) during Canadian Music Week.
